Harry Hall Rider Of The Year 2003
By Daisy O'Halloran

For five years I had sat in the stands like hundreds of others saying "Next year it will be me riding in the spotlight to Simply the Best."

Compared to most people, I started riding fairly late at twelve, I think my mother wanted me to be a ballet dancer or anything that meant I wasn't dirty the whole time and also meant not getting up at ridiculous times of the morning! However, when I did start, I had the good fortune to be taught by Marjorie and Richard Ramsay who gave me the benefit of their incredible knowledge and experience.

We were amazed to find 426 entries when we got to Peterborough.  The first section went well – we were in the last 12. In the afternoon, I wasn't so pleased with the performance, the flies irritated Pie and I wasn't at all sure we had done well enough.  I was totally overcome when we won the class.

The evening performance was electric and Pie did a sequence of flying changes around the ring in excitement. When it came to the final call, it really was everything I had thought it would be and more.

I must thank Jan Darwin, Lucy Thompson and family for being there to support me and my Aunt, Kelly who owns Pie for letting me ride him.

Thank you also to Harry Hall and BSPS.
