Okewood Delightful
Mini Champion - Blue Riband
by Karen Brar

2004 had been an amazing year for Imergen and Okewood Delightful (Twinkle), as she is known at home. Having moved to Katy Carter early on in 2004 both Twinkle and Katy formed a fabulous partnership. Adding Imergen was the icing on the cake. They had the most fantastic season with so many wins and championships.

Each time the New Year Book arrives I have to wait until both girls are asleep to steal it away to read the features. I turn cold and shivery in admiration of the jockeys fantastic achievements and hope one day it will happen in our family. In 2004 it did and I am writing our own piece. It is such a marvellous experience to win this title; the emotions on that final evening were uncontained. Watching, praying, hoping that Katy, Imergen and Twinkle would go Champion. Thankfully they did and they received the most exquisite sash from the generous Blundell family, now framed with the photographs and rosettes taking up a huge part of the wall.

During the 2004 Championships I was hoping for a win for Imergen, knowing it was almost her last ride on the pony made me even more desperate. All week they had been placed well but not a win. Going through to the final ten of the Blue Riband was Imergen’s penultimate ride.

Kate, Imergen and Twinkle had practised their show and indoors Twinkle rose to the big occasion gaining 42 marks on phase two. But so had three other ponies. It was if time stood still, the marks seemed to take forever. Finally the announcement came and I will never forget that number 941 the Winner. Imergen and Twinkle’s last ride at the BSPS Championships had been won in style, what a win to leave the lead rein class on.

None of this would have been possible without the support of Katy and all her team who worked tirelessly and relentlessly to turn out pony after pony immaculately.

A huge thank you to them all, Katy, her team, her family, the Blundell Family, the BSPS and finally Twinkle who has given us so much pleasure these past three years, who in my opinion is SIMPLY THE BEST.

Now sold and in her new home we wish her new jockey and family the very best of luck and hope they have as much or even more success and pleasure as we have had.
