John is a pony with a personality as big as his jump!
He came over from Ireland, destined for life as a riding school pony at Barleyfields Equestrian Centre. John’s extraordinary ability and Fiona Holton’s careful production soon saw him rise to success as a W.H.P. My brother, Scott and friend, Louise Saywell, both enjoyed major success with him. Taking him over was nerve-wracking! After hours of patient but relentless training with Rachael Turner, John and I became a partnership and we’ve had great fun at the shows all summer.
John loves the big tracks at the Champs, but I was nervous. John felt unsure; I thought I was letting him down. “The Dessie” is the biggest most challenging track of the year. The one we all want to win! We concentrated on watching the other sections before deciding whether to compete. We warmed up well, and then in we went, last to go. I tried to remain focused; the fences come upon you so quickly. “That’s what we’ve been waiting for our first clear round!” shouted the commentator.
I have been so lucky in having the support from family and many friends, especially Daisy Lafferty. Mummy and her team at home on her stud along with Rachael, their skills and dedication all gave me the confidence I needed to win the class and the great honour of becoming Desert Orchid Champion. Even more lucky to have John. You are so brave, beautiful, funny and clever, and you put up with me!
THANKS! XXX
