BSPS Olympia Qualified Ponies 2016

SUFFOLK
HARDENDALE RAY & Katherine Marks

BSPS

Hardendale Ray is a 7 year old working Fell stallion who is currently undergoing his first open season. He has not disappointed and has qualified HOYS, Olympia and the RI- where he proudly stood 2nd.

Ray is produced by Sarah Parker nee Challinor and we can’t thank her and her team enough for all their hard work with Ray. This is my first ever visit to Olympia and is the first time I will ride at HOYS and Olympia so I extremely excited for this experience and couldn't think of anyone better to share it with than Ray.

MID HERTS SHOW

DYFFRYNGWY SIR PICASSO - Miss Emma Boardman

BSPS

Picasso was purchased by us as a six month old weaned foal from the Brightwells cob sales in the autumn of 2010 from his breeder Gwyneth Griffiths, he walked past us whilst we were sat on a bench and Babs said I’m going to follow that one in ..... The rest is history !

He was reared at home and quietly and slowly broken by myself.

As a four year old I decided he could do one show for a bit of experience at the Countryside live as it's such a lovely big ring to get a youngster out he only went and won and went champion and qualified Olympia at his first ever show !!!!

Unfortunately he picked up a virus the week before Olympia and was unable to compete.

Last year 2015 he had a quiet start but qualified for the Horse of the year show where he was third and competed at the BSPS summer Championships where he won and was champion in every class he did the novice, the restricted and the wow factor class.

This year 2016 he qualified for the RIHS at the North of England spring show, he was champion at Cumberland county and gained his silver medal then he won and qualified for HOYS at the North of England summer show then a week later he won the Great Yorkshire.

We then went to Mid Herts where he won and went champion and qualified for

Olympia !!!!

Picasso has done relatively few shows so far but has a life time ahead of him, he loves being a happy hacker and just enjoys doing anything he is a very pleasant pony to deal with and has lived up to the expectations that went with buying him as a foal.

ROYAL WINDSOR
SLIEVE BLOOM JILL - Lady Sue Huntingdon

Hermione is in her 2nd season with Team Ramsay and has had a very successful season continuing on from their win at Horse of the year last year! They were Champion at BSPS winter Championships, Champion at Royal Windsor, Champion at Hickstead Derby Meeting and also Champion at The Longines Royal International Horse Show.

Hermione never fails to bring enjoyment to her owner and all the team behind her and has fulfilled many dreams! Her temperament is amazing meaning she is a pleasure to do and much loved!

B.S.P.S. SCOTLAND FINALE
DUNEDIN DUNCAN - D Brereton

BSPS

Dunedin Duncan – owned by Dianne Brereton, Ridden by Harriet Dennison and produced by Rachel Helliwell. Dunedin Duncan was bred by Anne Mitchell in Stirling, Scotland and was bought from her in late Summer 2014. He was purchased to be the resident stallion for our highland mares at our Laybalands Stud based in Shropshire. Prior to us buying him from Anne he had been lightly shown as a Novice in 2014 qualifying for HOYS in the same year. On arriving with us it very soon became apparent that he loved being under saddle and so we took the decision to put his stud duties on hold and to concentrate on showing him under saddle. Rachel Helliwell whom is based in Cumbria has successfully produced our ridden plaited ponies for a number of years so she was our obvious choice. On arriving there he quickly became quite a celebrity with his flowing locks and is affectionately known as Hunky Dunky, he is a gentle giant with a superb temperament and always gives his all. In his first season, still a relative novice he had a very successful season qualifying and finishing 7th at HOYS 2015. In 2016 he has been very lightly shown at the latter part of the season due to fracturing a tooth during the winter and once fit and well again after doing a few shows, Harriet Dennison took over the ride. On their first outing together they took BSPS Heritage Supreme Pony of the Year title as BSPS Summer Championship show and on the second outing they were M & M champions at BSPS Scottish Finale show resulting in them qualifying for Olympia, not a bad start for a new combination. We are delighted to be competing at Olympia, a first for us and Team Helliwell, what a lovely and unexpected early Christmas present.

Good luck to everyone competing at Olympia this year from all Dunedin Duncan’s connections.

B.S.P.S. HERITAGE CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW
DUNKERY WIGEON - Maureen Richardson

BSPS

Dunkery Wigeon 8 year old Exmoor stallion, we have owned him for 7 years, since owning him he has brought us all at Buttondown Exmoor ponies the most amount of joy, from throwing his amazing conformation and his well known temperament to his youngstock. Wigeon went to Hayley Reynolds to be backed in December 2012 as a 4 year old and came out in 2013 qualifying for RIHS and hoys and in 2014 did the triple RIHS, Hoys, and Olympia. He had a rest year in 2015 to just be a pony. In 2016 he had a new jockey Frankie Currell where they have had a very competitive season being placed in top 5 in all there hoys qualifiers, nearly missing out at hoys he has made everyone's dreams come true and qualified for Olympia at the heritage championship show.

BROEKLAND ALLESANDRO - Mrs A Pallett

BSPS
Allesandro was bought by Mandy Burchell Small as a 3 yr old from Holland. It was love at first sight! Broken here and kept a stallion as he was so well behaved.  He had a quiet first season in which he was placed at both RI and Hoys. Second season 2013 he won with Gemma at Ri and Also won with Becky Penny at Hoys, 2014 he was at stud at Mandy's and we picked him up late 2014 and since then he and Gem have had a great partnership and been placed at both every year, top section a at the Rihs this year. Gemma qualified him for Olympia last year but had already  promised to ride her first qualified pony. Gemma has qualified two again this year but her ride will be Allesandro. Gemma does everything with him from WHP to Dressage and totally does him on her own from home. He has a 4 yr old son that we hope to have under saddle and showing next season.

B.S.P.S. HERITAGE CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW
LINKSBURY MISS POLLY - Danielle Suzanne Garner

BSPS

Linksbury Miss Polly was bred by the Landon family at the Linksbury stud, I have owned her myself since a 4 year old, she is a 6 year old mare by Paddock Pavlova out of Linksbury Royal Charm, I brought her off a picture without seeing her, which was a complete gamble but definitely the best thing I ever did, she is a real diva, she has taken a long time to mature but the wait was worth it.

B.S.P.S. HERITAGE CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW
LYNUCK THE SHOWMAN - Mrs Lynn Scott

BSPS
Lynuck the Showman (Peanut) has had an amazing first season, owned and bred by myself and superbly produced by Aimee Devane of Follywood Show Team. B.S.P.S. HERITAGE CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW
PUMPHILL BENNET - Mr Paul Starkie

BSPS

This is Rambo's 4th visit to Olympia. He's taken both my sons there and has been Reserve in 2014 and Best of Breed twice. He has been with us for eight years now and is one of the family. He has been the perfect stallion this year for Aliya Khan who is 12 and who loves him as much as we do.

B.S.P.S. HERITAGE CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW
DUNMERE WOODRUFF - Megan Hewitt

BSPS

Dunmere Woodruff is an 8 year old Dartmoor stallion by Wilby Victory out of Dunmere Dusky Heath. He is owned & bred by Mrs Jo green of the Dunmere stud and produced & ridden by Megan Hewitt.

He was backed over the winter of 2014/2015 and had a quiet but successful novice season. He enjoyed a few days out hunting before returning home for a well deserved holiday. After completing his stud duties in the spring of 2016, he came back to us to continue with his ridden career.

This year was his first season competing in the open classes and what a season it has been! Winning his section of the Shearwater final, qualifying for the Royal International where he was 8th and for HOYS where he was 6th. The icing on the cake was qualifying for Olympia at the BSPS Heritage Champs on his first ever attempt!

Woodruff is such a super kind pony that does everything asked of him with a smile on his face.

This will be my first time at Olympia as a competitor, it has always been a dream of mine to ride in that special arena and thanks to Woodruff I am now going to get the chance. The best christmas present ever !

B.S.P.S. HERITAGE CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW
NIRE VALLEY CHARLIE - Mrs M Alford

BSPS

Nire Valley Charlie is a seven-year-old grey Connemara gelding that we purchased from Sarah Parker nee Challinor in February 2015. Charlie is produced by Victoria Hesford in Swansea South Wales, ridden by myself (Charlotte Alford) and owned by my mother, Melanie.

Charlie has qualified for Horse Of The Year Show for the previous three seasons (2014, 2015 & 2016) and booked a ticket to Olympia in 2014. In 2014 he was placed 3rd at Horse Of The Year Show, and in 2015 awarded the Tagg La Liga most consistent Connemara of the year.  This season he qualified for Horse of the Year Show on his first attempt back in May, after this he was given a summer break and brought back into work at the beginning of July.

He was champion at both BSPS Area 9B, and Cothi Bridge Show where he qualified for the Silver Medal Final. At BSPS Wales he won his class qualifying for the Olympia Semi-Final at the BSPS Heritage Championships in October. In August, at the BSPS Summer Championships he won both a strong Connemara & New Forest Olympia section and the Red Division. At Horse Of The Year Show this year he was placed in the top 11 finishing 9th.

Since then we have competed at BSPS Heritage Championships where Charlie made all my dreams come true! Over the two days he competed in two classes of which he won both. On the Saturday he won a huge Connemara & New Forest Olympia Semi-Final class, and then to top off an already amazing weekend he qualified for the Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead next July.

Charlie has an amazing character and loves attention. He enjoys hacking, and most importantly going out in the field. However he does like to get quite dirty and therefore requires daily baths! I rode at Olympia in 2011 on my Welsh Section D, Llanarth Old Fashion who is now enjoying his retirement. Riding Charlie at the BSPS Heritage Championships and qualifying him has meant a lot to me, and something that I only dreamt of.  Travelling to Victoria’s from Devon every Thursday afternoon for a lesson has definitely paid off!

B.S.P.S. HERITAGE CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW
GLENCARRIG MARBLE - Samantha Fowler

BSPS

Mickey was bred in Ireland by the Curran’s at the Glencarrig Stud and I bought him from the Tyan Stud in April 2014. I brought him on slowly and did some novice classes that year, but I felt he was ready for the opens by the beginning of 2015. Later that year Mickey qualified for HOYS where he was 4th and we got our Olympia ticket at the Heritage Champs.

This has been our second season in open classes. We qualified first time out back in March for the Open and Amateur classes at the Royal International Horse Show.  Then we contested a few HOYS qualifiers, just missing out each time, so getting to Olympia makes up for it. This is the second year running we have qualified at the Heritage Championships in the breed class!  I produce Mickey from home and travel to the shows all by myself, its hard work but well worth it.

Mickey is a true all rounder. In between our showing we do dressage, show jumping and regularly go out with the Kent and Surrey Bloodhounds.....after Olympia we are looking forward to the Boxing Day meet.

B.S.P.S. HERITAGE CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW
RENVARG ROBIN HOOD - Alys Lee

BSPS

Renvarg Robin Hood aka The Ginger Pig was bought as a yearling from Renvarg Stud by Alys and Lisa Lee who still own him now due to work commitments Alys no longer had the time to look after him which is where I came in I've looked after an shown him since being 5 years old he is now 9 he hasn't been pushed to show it ha been very laid back with him we have done a handful of HOYS qualifiers over the years but this year he qualified at Royal Cheshire county where he stood reserve large breed champion.

this year was his and my first time completing at HOYS and this was his first attempt at an Olympia qualifier too

The week leading up to heritage was a run of bad luck I lost my job on the Tuesday and was also in a car crash the same day so I wasn't really up for riding him in the qualifier but my good friend Brian Williams has wanted to have a ride on him for some time now so I asked if he fancied a ride and that was the first time he has ever shown him and he qualified.

GREENHOLME CAITLIN - Mrs J Minns

BSPS

Greenholme Caitlin is an 8 year old fell mare by Greenholme Look at Me out of Greenholme Wishful, bought by Joanna Minns in 2015 to join the rest of the fell pony team with Jenny and Heather Crane in the beautiful Peak District. Originally bought as a brood mare Caitlin enjoyed rather too much of the lush Peak District grass, so a little too fat for covering, Ashbourne based jockey Tamsyn Bell-Heather took Caitlin in to ride and show her for the season.

Caitlin and Tammy were soon ready to commence Caitlin's first open season under saddle and what a season it has been. They have had many wins and championships too numerous to list, but which include qualifying for the RIHS open, RIHS Amateur and 4th at the final, 1st HOYS qualifier Fell Breed Show and 8th at HOYS being the only fell mare in the class. At the Heritage Championships Caitlin wowed us all by securing her ticket to Olympia from 38 catalogued entries, no mean feat! Caitlin has made a lot of people very proud and the team are looking forward to Olympia already.

B.S.P.S. HERITAGE CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW
MAESCROFTA DON JUAN - Kelly Jones

BSPS
Maescrofta Don Juan was purchased from the wpcs May sales 2015 as an unbacked project by my friend Natasha Ham. Natasha enjoyed last year with him bringing him on doing all disciplines but mainly hunting through the winter. I purchased milo from Natasha early 2016 where he started showing making his debut at the scwpcs spring show in May taking the picton championship and the silver medal championship.
He is only lightly shown but has had some great success. He has won 2 Olympia breed classes including hickstead. He also did a few hoys qualifiers near the end of the season always bring placed and also gained his wpcs medal at nps after winning the breed class and taking championship. I was unable to attend the heritage show so my friend aimee Devane stepped in and rode him for me and qualifying for Olympia was the icing on the cake and a lovely end to a very enjoyable season. He will now spend the winter months doing some jumping and different things before getting him prepared for his first visit to Olympia in December.

B.S.P.S. HERITAGE CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW
MENAI THOMAS - Mr P H N Hall

BSPS

Competing at Olympia for the fourth time, Menai Thomas is a 12 year old Welsh Section C stallion owned by the Hall family of the Thorngate Stud. Bred in the purple, by Talon Tomos out of Menai Cadi Fach, he carries the bloodlines of many of the greats of Section C breeding including Menai Fury and Llyn Cwm Coed. Bought from Peter Jones of the Menai Stud as a virtually unhandled two year old, he has exceeded all expectations both as a stud stallion and a competition pony. He passes his superb temperament and pony quality onto his offspring and, with the dedication of his long term rider Sarah Parker and the Challinor Show Team, has excelled under saddle. His fourth qualification for Olympia is just one of his many  achievements on the flat including, twice Royal Welsh Ridden Champion, 4th place and Best of Breed Olympia 2012, 2nd and 3rd placings at HOYS, the list is endless! In 2015 Thomas decided he had more to give as a Working Hunter Pony qualifying for HOYS in his first open season and gaining a creditable 5th at the final. Becoming the Wharley St George WHP Champion at the BSPS 2015 Summer Champs was amazing but being The Underwood Supreme of Show was out of this world. We are so proud to own the first native pony to achieve this award. Menai Thomas, full of mischief, but supremely talented and always sure to make us smile!

( The Hall Family)

B.S.P.S. HERITAGE CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW
MURTHWAITE WINDRUSH - Mrs Jenny Crane

BSPS

Owned by Jenny Crane – Ridden by Steph Peto

Murthwaite Windrush will be appearing at Olympia for the third time this year, qualifying again at the Heritage Championships.  Windy never fails to disappoint making his 4th HOYS appearance this year on the trot including winning HOYS in 2013 on his first appearance.  Not bad considering his ridden career didn’t start until 2013.  Windy lives full time with Steph Peto who has produced him to perfection over the years, where he has gained quite a following.  He is and still remains the only grey fell to qualify for the Horse of the Year Show.  Over the years he has been a great ambassador for the Fell breed not only as a sire but winning the Fell Pony Stallion Show in hand supreme championship.  Heather Morrison , as Steph’s stable jockey has also had a great deal of fun with Windy, piloting him to qualify for the RI junior and the Olympia qualifier.  Windy always has a huge smile on his face when at a show and is without doubt my pony of a life time and loved by loads.

COUNTRYSIDE LIVE
BENBREAC OF CROILA - Mrs M Stanford

BSPS

Benbreac of Croila is owned by Melanie Stanford and ridden by Matthew Cooper. He was purchased by the Stanford Family as an unhandled yearling from his breeder, the Late Cameron Ormiston.

Breac continues to have an incredible showing career, taking championships at Royal Windsor for three consecutive years - being twice M&M Supreme in hand, followed by Champion M&M ridden in 2015 where he also qualified for his first visit to Olympia. He has won the Torne Valley £1000 final at North of England Show, been Supreme Heritage at the BSPS Summer Championships, Overall Supreme at the BSPS Heritage Show, qualified HOYS 2014, 2015 (2nd) & 2016 (2nd), RIHS 2015 & 2016 (open & young riders both years), Olympia Best of Breed & 3rd 2015.

His in-hand championships include Royal Highland, Royal Norfolk, Royal Cornwall, Great Yorkshire (twice), Bucks County, Cheshire County (Cuddy reserve twice), Stoneleigh, Herts County, South of England (twice), Newark & Notts (twice), Derbyshire Festival, East of England, NPS British Isles Supreme Champion, supreme Southern Highland Pony Show, Scottish Horse Show (twice).

This year he won two HOYS qualifiers - The Royal Highland (also overall Champion) and Midland Counties (also reserve champion) and qualified for Olympia by winning the direct qualifier championship at Countryside Live, Great Yorkshire Showground.

Breac is produced from home and is an absolute pleasure to own. We have several of his youngsters waiting in the wings. He is a complete showman, being known as a beach donkey at home out hacking but then comes to life the second he sets foot in the show ring.

We are so excited to be returning to Olympia again and wish everyone the best of luck xx

B.S.P.S. HERITAGE CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW

B.S.P.S. HERITAGE CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW
HARVEY'S MAGIC MOMENT - Mr T A Pitcher

BSPS
Well my journey with'Harvey' only began last year after seeing him on a forum website. Although in his winter woolies when I saw him, I hoped that he would be my next star in the ring. After a short while him being with me here in Grantham we took him to BSPS Area 4b winter show where we stood Novice Champion! Following many more good results at winter shows we decided to enter him in some HOYS qualifiers. Little did we know a star was in the making. Winning at the Royal Norfolk show qualifying him for HOYS, we won again at Stoneleigh Horse Show, these results were something we had always dreamt about.
The end of the qualifiers could only mean one thing, next stop HOYS!! We won the consistency award for the New Forest ponies, then came October where we stood WINNERS OF THE NEW FOREST PONY OF THE YEAR !!! Something I had always dreamt about since my showing career began on lead rein show ponies.
This year has been another incredible year for us, qualifying for the RIHS at our first outing in March at BSPS Area 6. We were then 2nd at Royal Three Counties Show(HOYS q) onto Royal Cheshire Show where we had a win qualifying us for HOYS 2016! I decided that I would take Harvey to my favourite county show , Royal Norfolk, where we won again for the 2nd year running.
Harvey went beautifully at HOYS and at the Heritage Champs. Qualifying for Olympia, being the only New Forest placed in the semi final is the icing on the cake. I am proud to be representing the breed at Olympia as well as being Forest Bred really is something special. Team work - makes dream work to give Magic Moments!!!

B.S.P.S. HERITAGE CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW
LUNESDALE DIXIE - Christina Clare

BSPS

Bought by the Claire family lightly backed in November last year, in his first season he has qualified for RI and Hoys. But really came into his own at heritage champs and won a huge class of 38 in the Olympia and went RI champion for 2017.

He is the most adorable pony we've owned and a dream to ride says Christina.

He's produced by the jinks show team and is a firm favourite by all at the yard. David added he is a fabulous pony to have in the yard, you barely know you have him there he's the quietest stallion I've ever known!!

B.S.P.S. HERITAGE CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW
TREHEWYD CARDI - Mr D Lorimer

BSPS

Trehewyd Cardi

Owned by David Lorimer, Produced and ridden by Kayleigh Evans of Cottown Equestrian.

Cardi has been with us just over a year and we have loved every second of working with him, he's very gentle and loves attention!

We made the 11 hour journey from the north of Scotland down to the BSPS heritage championships after qualifying for the next round of the Olympia Q at BSPS Scotland's Finale Show, none of this would have been possible if we didn't have our sponsor Marinetronix whom support us in all we do!

We had just hoped for a rosette in one of our classes and we would have been delighted, so to qualify Olympia on his first attempt we are over the moon!

Cardi has had very good results in his first season with us, he always tries his hardest to please! We have never been to Olympia so this will just be the icing on the cake!!

B.S.P.S. SUMMER CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW
SWCHYRHAFOD BRENIN - Martin Wood

BSPS

Two days before the start of the BSPS Summer Championship Show I was taken into hospital for a serious throat operation and thought that was the end of my chance to compete at one of my favourite shows of the year. I had already missed much of the start of the season plus the Royal International Horse Show through illness so I was devastated. However once I was back home Nigel suggested I go out on a hack with him and ride “Swchyrhafod Brenin” ( stable name “ Logan” ) and if I felt ok he would take me down to the Summer Champs to do the Summer Heritage Open class and the Olympia Direct Qualifier the next day.

“Logan” has always looked after me and although we only started our 2016 campaign at the end of May he has never let me down – this year’s successes include Champion Area 3A , 1st South of England Show ( for the second year running ) and 1st and Reserve Champion at the Stoneleigh Horse Show.

So off we went down to Arena UK on the Friday morning and although I couldn’t speak ( which Nigel said was a blessing !! ) it felt good to be competing again. “Logan “ pulled out all the stops and went Champion Summer Heritage Open in the morning then later gaining his Olympia ticket by taking the Olympia Direct Qualifier Championship producing the gallop of his life.

Last year was the first time I competed at Olympia with “Logan” and to qualify again is a dream come true – to compete in London at Christmas time is the best experience for any showing rider and I can’t wait.

GWYNFAES MASCEN WLEDIG - Catherine Hudson

BSPS

Max has had two fantastic seasons showing under saddle, last year competing in 6 novice outings including being overall NPS Picton Champion and 2016 being his first open season. He kicked the year off by winning the RIHS qualifier at BSPS area 17 and also going reserve champion, followed by being champion at NCPA Notts & Lincs qualifying for the Torne Valley Supreme, then taking RIHS junior champion at NCPA Derbyshire, also picking up his silver medal. After having a short break in April, he took champion at Hambleton show, followed by HOYS champion at Lincs County. He was 3rd in the junior intermediate class at royal international and 6th in the c's & d's, also gaining 7th at his first year at HOYS. He gained his Olympia ticket at the Heritage champs, although I had only decided to do the qualifier the previous week having not contested any previous qualifiers. He has had a brilliant season, qualifying for everything at first attempts and we are both very much looking forward to Olympia.

B.S.P.S. HERITAGE CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW
MAESYFELIN LLEW DU - Alice Cook

BSPS

Maesyfelin Llew Du is a black Welsh Sec D, gelding, known at home as "Norman" he came with that name when I got him!

I was very excited when I qualified him for Olympia at  the Heritage Championships as this was my first show with him. He also won the Blue Ribband.

In fact the first time I saw and rode Norman was on the Saturday after HOYS at my Dads, who had found, tried and bought him before HOYS and collected him from that show! Norman had qualified for HOYS at the NPS, he got his Olympia semi at BSPS Welsh Championships, when ridden and produced by Sarah Parker, he is still a novice having only done a few shows.

As I work full time and no longer live at home, we wanted a pony that dad can keep fit for me and can I ride at weekends and shows. As everyone works we need a pony that's easy and has a marvellous temperament and is "nice person" Norman is just that, and I am very lucky to have him.

Alice Cook

B.S.P.S. HERITAGE CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW
ELLISTER ISLAY MARINER - Tamsyn Cornall-Howe

BSPS
Ellister Islay Mariner. 6 year old highland stallion. Had a novice year last year gaining 5th in the res winter final on only his 4th outing. He also won the 4,5 and 6  year old class at the Royal Highland Show.

At the beginning of 2016 Sarah Field and I had a casual chat at Addington and I made the decision to ask Sarah to take over the ride in the HOYS classes. Eli as he is known at home has had some fantastic placings in the hoys and we made the decision to enter the Olympia direct qualifier as a good class to finish the season. We never expected to win in the company of such fantastic experienced ponies!!
We cannot wait for Olympia before both Sarah and I welcome our babies in Feb and may next year!

B.S.P.S HERITAGE CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW
MARLEYDENES NASHAAL - Lucinda Stapleton

BSPS

Marleydenes Nashaal is a 9 year old New Forest Stallion bred by Katie Baxter in Yorkshire by Wayland Golden Harry out of Wayland Prima Donna.

Shrimp (as he is known at home) came to us in May of last year during my gap year and I had the most wonderful season qualifying for the Royal International in only the second class I contested and then winning the Amateur Riders M&M Championship at the final.   He also qualified for HOYS (where he had been second twice with Caroline Saker) and we were thrilled to be 4th, but only two marks behind the winner.   This year I was not able to ride on Doctor’s orders but he qualified for the Royal International on his second outing of the year and then HOYS in the first Breed Qualifier, ridden and produced to perfection by Katy Marriott Payne, with whom he lives whilst I have been out of action !    WE were thrilled to pieces when Katy won HOYS – but then a dilemma – she had also won on Buzby so I had to ride  in the International Arena……….not having ridden since HOYS 2015.   He was a star and was every bit as amazing as I remembered – I am sure he knew…..

I had to go straight back to University and the following weekend Katy took him to the Heritage Championships and won his breed class thus Qualifying for Olympia. To say I was   over

joyed is an understatement.  To say that my dreams had come true might seem a cliché but it was exactly how I felt.

I cannot fully express the debt of gratitude I owe to Katy, Katie , Mum and of course Shrimp !

WATERSIDE BLACK PRINCE - Tarnya Shields

BSPS

This beautiful 11 year old section  A + grand A black Dales stallion has been entirely home produced and ridden this year by Tarnya Shields. This season he has had many wins to his credit including RIHS, HOYS and now Olympia. The temperament of the horse is so good that Nana had Res Champ in over 50s at NPS Champ(she is over 70|)! He is a pleasure to have in a stable and has lived as a family horse during last year being looked after by Tarnya and her partner Dai. He is a true representitive of his breed being extremely powerful, free moving and a pleasure to ride. Tarnya felt she was so lucky to have him from Claire Grisdale because he has such a fantastic showing record including Res Supreme at Olympia, Best of Breed twice, winning HOYS twice and RIHS 6 times. Tarnya would like to thank Snuggy Hoods for their generous sponsorship which have kept his coat in wonderful show condition. Thanks to anyone who has helped this year and good luck to all my fellow competitors at Olympia.

Prince has moved homes now to live with Terry Clynes to go WHP and Stud duties and I'm sure he will be very successful in both fields. Tarnya would like to thank Terry Clynes and Ciaran Kelly for allowing her take him to Olympia and getting him back to show condition for this very special event and most of all thank his owner Claire Grisdale for trusting her with her special boy this season. Olympia holds many happy memories for Tarnya because she was back pregnant back in 2014 when she last competed at olympia and this year Henson, her one year old son, will be watching with the rest of the family.
