Jean Mackaness. (26-5-1926)

It is with great sadness we have to inform members that Jean Mackaness passed away on Monday 5th February at the age of 97.

Jean was a judge on the BSPS judges panel for over 40 years, she retired from the judges panel following her final judging  appointment at the Horse of the Year Show in 2014. Jean was the oldest judge to officiate at HOYS at 88 years of age and first to use the marks when they were introduced for BSPS  flat classes!

A former President and committee member of BSPS Area17 for many years, she gave years of service to the society. All her many friends in Area 17 will miss her.

A BHSI, examiner, pony club instructor,  who enjoyed hunting, she was a highly accomplished equestrian. Jean competed at both Badminton and Burghley, bringing her vast knowledge to judging horses and ponies at major shows in the UK, Burghley Young Event Horse, with judging appointments in Australia, New Zealand and Ireland.

Jean loved travelling and watching rugby.

Our condolences and deepest sympathy go her family at this time.
