Olympia Qualifiers

I bought ‘Charlie’ on behalf of Cheryl when I saw him as a novice at the end of 2016.  In 2017, he was unbeaten in Novice classes concluding with standing Open Ridden M&M Champion at Equifest.

This season our aim was just to try some open classes and see what happened... he won his first two outings of the season and stood champion both times.... going on to be Champion at the Royal Bath & West and qualifying for Olympia was beyond our wildest dreams!

I have been riding him from the day Cheryl bought him and I keep him on a DIY Livery yard down the road from where I work at Philip Hobbs Racing, doing him before and after work. This pony just has the most outstanding temperament and is incredibly versatile, he is everyone’s best friend!

We was absolutely thrilled when he won at the Horse Of The Year Show. He has a charming temperament which he passes onto his offspring.

Only a 7 year old in his first season Gloves Blakehill William has way exceeded any expectations, he was bred in Ireland, By Rebel Star out of Gloves Dawn Mist. He was Placed second in the Open Connemaras at the RIHS and 4th in the Juniors with my sister Maisie. He has an outstanding temperament and spent most of his summer being used to ride and lead 6 year old James Burchell out on his rides and around the gallops.

MENAI EUROSTAR - Karen Johnson

He has been lightly shown this season winning 5/6 outings. Last year he was Royal Welsh Ridden cob champion and won Royal windsor he qualified HOYS and Olympia also.

GB as he’s known at home has been with us from a foal bought directly from Peter Jones of the Menai stud.  He’s had three successful ridden seasons including 3rd at HOYS in his novice season.

He’s the yard clown but we all love him dearly. We are very proud of his achievements and look forward to sporting the tinsel down to the big smoke!

Clare Fitch, his producer will take the ride at the Final.

Dyffryngwy Sir Picasso 8 yr old gelding by Trevallion Picasso

Out of Pennal Sian, bred by Gwyneth Griffiths, owned by Emma Boardman/ Babs Ruchwaldy . We have owned Picasso since he was 6 months old , we purchased him as a foal from the Brightwells cob sales in 2010.

We didn't do much other than grow up as a youngster I backed him spring 2014 , his first ever show was countryside live he went champion qualifying for Olympia   , a shock at his first ever show and setting the bar high for himself !

2015 qualified RIHS was placed 3rd at HOYS. 2016 qualified RIHS , HOYS & Olympia. 2017 won RIHS , 3rd HOYS , qualified Olympia. 2018 3rd RIHS, won HOYS qualified Olympia

HETT SOLITAIRE - Rene Bradley

Hett Solitaire 7 yr old Dales Pony bred by  Hett Stud Co. Durham has been with me for 18 months and has always been a pleasure to have around. She has a very expressive old fashioned type movement which really makes her stand out in the ring,  she moves on all fours like a true dales pony should. Her first time at hoys this year saw her being placed 6th in the final line up and even though she was the youngest pony in the class, she just took it all in her stride and never faltered in her performance. We were then off to heritage to do the Double and qualifying for Olympia and RIHS 2019 at heritage champs. This Mare is outstanding in her attitude towards work and always aims to please regular jockey Amy Smith who admits not liking mares has fallen in love with this lady I think mainly because she always tries her best for her.

’Eric’ is a 6 year old stallion by the prolific Moorcroft the Master.

As a youngster he was a Bronze & Silver medal winner inhand.

Sire of successful progeny including an In Hand Medal Winner.

In December 2017 he came to me on loan where he would continue his ridden career. He had been broken and attended a handful of small shows in 2017.

2018 was a season we could only have dreamed of for a complete novice where at the beginning we got 3rd at Windsor. He continued his amazing results throughout the season which included reserve champion ridden C at royal welsh, supreme ridden at Tudor rose welsh show, 1st & reserve champion intermediate at northleach and 2nd at national welsh. He collected his first hoys ticket & finally both our first Olympia tickets at heritage champs.

Owned by Mr.I.Hill

GLENCARRIG MARBLE - Samantha Fowler

Mickey is a Connemara Stallion by Janus x Coosheen Breeze, who was bred out in Ireland by Mr C Curran of the Glencarrig Stud.

He needs no introduction, this is our fourth year competing at Olympia. We have had numerous successes together over the last few years, too many to mention, but our highlight of last year was being 2nd at HOYS. This year he has been lightly shown gaining our HOYS qualification back in May, second time out and since then we have taken it easy enjoying hacking out over the heath.

I have owned him since 2014 and our partnership has grown from strength to strength. I produce him from home by myself and when we are not showing we compete in dressage, where in the past we have reached the Petplan Finals. During the Winter months we can be seen out regularly with our local hunt, which Mickey finds great fun.

Dunmere Woodruff is a 10 year old Dartmoor stallion, bred and owned by Jo Green- the Dunmere stud. He is produced and ridden by Megan Hewitt and has been very lightly but successfully shown under saddle. Woodruff this season qualified for both HOYS & RIHS, in which he was 2nd at the final and highest placed Dartmoor.

He has the most amazing temperament and a huge personality. When back at home he carries out his stud duties and through the winter months he also hunts with the Four Shires Bloodhounds, plus a bit of dressage and jumping.

This will be Woodruff’s second visit to Olympia - he really is a pony of a lifetime and we cannot wait to compete there again!

Haighmoor Llewelyn 2007 now aged 11 years old. 2018 has been an incredible year for us all where he qualified for Royal International, HOYS (being placed 7th) and now Olympia. Owned by Emma Davis Ridden by Kate Williams Bred by Julie Evans of the Haighmoor Stud We purchased him as a 7 year old at the October 2014 51st Autumn Cob Sales at Builth Wells, prior to which he had been shown as a youngster and used as a stud stallion. Upon getting him home from the sales we commenced with his new career and by Christmas 2014 he was a ridden stallion. Since then he has worked his way up through the novice ranks until seriously contending his open shows in 2017. A dream to own and he certainly has made 2018 a year when dreams really do come true.

We purchased Comet from Mrs Helen Worth in 2014 as a 4yr serving stallion. We knew that Comet was going to be special and that we had to take it slowly to gain his trust and respect. Life wasn’t easy, but he learnt to trust us and Ellena as his rider. Comet came out on the circuit in 2016 as a novice, he can be sensitive, but with good encouragement and reassurance, he excelled himself. We decided not to over show him and to carry on taking it easy with him, so that he would enjoy the showing world as much as we do. As a family we think this has worked, he is the most loving pony who will always try his best. He qualified for the RIHS and HOYS in 2017 and 2018, we are so proud, then he goes and qualifies for Olympia, you honestly can’t top that...

After his huge success in 2016 we decided to give him 2017 out the field with his mares & by this year Libby would be old enough to ride him in the ring.  They have had a great first season together, British Isles Supreme NPS area 25, Champion Juniors RI, Supreme Champion BSPS Wales, Brynserion Section B Final Winners, WOW factor champions BSPS summer Champs to name a few, they are the perfect combination they both love a audience, the show ring & always smiling.    He’s unbelievable temperament for a stallion he’s covered mares & been back on the ring with his 13 yr old jockey within days.    He’s our absolute pride & joy, he’s been produced by Debbie & Ron this season and Debbie always says he’s the most rideable pony she’s ever had, he’s definitely one of the yard favourites with everyone.

Lynuck the Showman or Peanut as he is more affectionately known is an 8yr Welsh Section C stallion.

Owned and bred by Lynn Scott and produced by her daughter Emma from their home in Lancashire.

This will be the third consecutive year that peanut has qualified for this championship having been third overall as a novice in 2016 and then going one better to stand reserve champion in 2017 taking best of breed on both occasions.

Peanut has only been lightly campaigned during 2018  having collected his RIHS & HOYS tickets by April and then went  on to win the first direct Olympia qualifier by standing Champion at Royal Windsor in May meaning he could pretty much put his feet up for the rest of the summer, the odd  run out saw him stand Champion at the Scottish Horse show and also win the ridden section C final the at the National Welsh Championships.

Olympia is without a doubt one of the highlights of the showing year for me, its truly unique atmosphere is something to really look forward too and I’m sure peanuts of the same opinion......... He loves a big occasion.

Springbourne Cartier is a 5-year-old Section A stallion with a sense of humour and doesn’t he know it!

Stewart Franklin of the Sarum Stud bought him as a foal and showed him very successfully in hand as a three-year-old. We had greatly admired him as a young colt and were delighted when Stewart rang and offered him to Anna saying he wanted Anna to have a nice ‘A’ stallion to ride.

He enjoyed a creditable, if quiet-ish year as a novice last year and this year started open classes. Anna’s problems with carpel tunnel in both hands, which developed in the spring this year, resulted in us asking Sarah Challinor to take him on for the season. We’ve always thought he was a super looking pony but to qualify for Hoys and Olympia with Sarah and her hard-working team has made us very proud. Anna is very much looking forward to riding him in the Olympia Final.

He is owned and bred by Mr & Mrs Dibdin. Produced by Sam Roberts

We are all delighted to have been lucky enough to qualified for Olympia in the Breed Class at the BSPS Heritage Show. This will be a fantastic end to a great year. We have had lots of fun with him and he has been successful by winning the Ridden Supreme & Reserve Overall Supreme at the New Forest Enthusiast Show, Winning & Reserve champion at the New Forest Show in the Breed class & winning at the breed show too. He also has won at Affiliated British Dressage. He has previously been placed 3rd at HOYS, as well as having a successful in hand career as a youngster. This will be the first homebred pony of the Dibdin’s to compete at this magical Christmas show, and we just can’t wait to see him there!

Highland Chief of Talisker is a 13hh, 7 year old stallion, bred by Kate Hawes and owned/ridden by Amber Thorpe.

Junior, as he is affectionately known at home, has had an outstanding first season.

Bought in August 2017, unseen and unbroken by Amber's mother Claire he qualified for Royal International, HOYS and culminating with an incredible Olympia ticket.  Broken last year by Amber he was then turned away, he has had quite a light season considering all he has qualified for but it certainly helped that he took to showing quickly with his outstanding temperament. .   This will be both Amber's and Junior's first time at Olympia so it will be a very exciting time for us all.  Junior just goes to prove 'Good things come in small packages'!

Sapphire Classic was purchased as a foal to make stud stallion for Catchpool Shetlands to sire ridden Shetlands. He soon embarked on a successful career as a ridden Shetland himself produced by Debbie Barr. He qualified as a five-year-old novice for Olympia and for RIHS. He has been to HOYS on numerous occasions, winning his section in 2014. He is the only Shetland to have done this in over 10years. Not being happy left at home he was then shown very successfully in hand culminating in being Shetland champion in Royal Welsh with his daughter winning the yearling class!

2018 he came back out under saddle with Frankie Currell – the job he likes best!
He was lightly shown qualifying for HOYS and was small breeds champion in Royal Three Counties, Malvern. He qualified for Olympia winning the Shetland breed section at the Heritage Championships. We believe he is the only Shetland forward this year.

UPHILL FREDDIE FOX - Tammy Heathcote

Freddie is 8 yr old, bred by Cathie Pearse and produced by Sarah Parker.

In just 3 seasons under saddle she has clocked up wins at; HOYS, Royal Windsor, Royal Three counties, Kent County, South of England, The New Forest, Suffolk County and Surrey County.

Returning from ‘maternity leave’ at the start of 2018, Ginger qualified for the Royal International, Horse of the Year show and Olympia in 3 weeks, re-establishing her ridden aptitude like she’d never been away.

7 year old Dunkery Sunbird aka Billy was bought as a 3 year old from Annabel and Emily Orrin.

I backed him myself the following year and he was turned away to mature.

The middle of 2017 I got back on him and he did a couple of shows.

This year being his first open season He qualified for the Olympia semi final at his first attempt and competed in 4 Hoys qualifiers being placed well in all, finally getting his ticket at NPS summer champs and being reserve champion m&m. We were thrilled with this result but the best was yet to come when he surprised us all by qualifying for Olympia.

We are so proud of this little person who has the biggest personality on the yard!!

Rocky is by the illustrious sire: Blackhill Piccolo. He is a 7 year old gelding with the most wonderful temperament. During 2018 he has been produced to perfection by Native Pony Producer Sam Roberts and her mother Suzi.

In this his novice season his results have been outstanding, gaining novice and Intermediate Championship along the way. We did not contend any RIHS qualifiers however he easily gained his HOYS qualification. We were absolutely thrilled with his performance at HOYS where he was placed 4th. To gain his Olympia ticket at the Heritage Championships last weekend was just the icing on the cake.

We are so excited to be competing at Olympia, this will be his first time there and we just can’t wait to see him perform at this wonderful Christmas Show. Rocky has also successfully competed in a couple of FR classes, and was NoviceChampion at the National Welsh Championship Show with my daughter Hanna

2018 has been a wonderful first season for this super pony and we are all very much looking forward to 2019.

CULMORE BOBBY - Sarah Parker

Culmore Bobby is a 6 year old gelding who was purchased as a 4 year old Stallion from the Stud in Ireland.

2018 is his first ridden season after having him castrated in March this year. He was champion novice at BSPS Winter Champs then went on to qualify for RIHS, HOYS and now Olympia. He is a pleasure to own and is a very loving character. He has been ridden all season by Tayla Lewis who will also be piloting him at the final

She is the best present I've ever been given!! She's been to HOYS twice, now the same with Olympia, she holds her own in the show ring having taken 2 supreme riddens and a reserve supreme this season. In her spare time at home she has to help bring the sheep in off the open Moor and check the cattle around the farm this I'm sure helps her in the ring. This will be her last show under saddle as she is of to stud next year, fingers crossed her babies are as delightful as her.

Popsters Joe Black is a 7 year old section C gelding owned by Lynette Bates and ridden by Chloe Chubb

‘JB’ joined me in June this year when I was left without an open section C to ride and I asked Lynette if I could borrow him for the season. JB fitted in straight away at home, he is full of character and is a lovely person who enjoys his time hacking around my village, stuffing his face and the odd shoe removal! He is by the prolific stallion Joyton Maybe Black out of Parvadean Rosie Last. We had a good first season coming second at NPS Area 25 and then winning and picking up our HOYS ticket at New Forest, as well as winning our BSPS semi final ticket at Blakesley. This was JB’s first trip to HOYS in the open class having competed in the juniors there last year finishing 3rd.

We headed to the Heritage championships to contest the Semi Final class which I knew would be a strong section. After the go round we were pulled in third but in the final placings moved up to win the qualifier which I was absolutely thrilled with. I am really looking forward to taking JB to Olympia, it is such a special show, very local for us and we can’t wait to get in the Christmas spirit. Having competed Popsters ponies for 10 years, the last time I rode one at Olympia was in 2011, Popsters Debutante also a black gelding! This will be JB’s third trip to Olympia and he is looking forward to seeing Santa again.

This year they won the M&M Open Ridden Championship at the Royal International Horse Show and then took the Supreme Pony Championship - making history as this was the first time a native has taken this supreme title. They followed this by then winning at Horse of the Year Show. Breac has been to HOYS for 5 consecutive years and this will also be his 3rd visit to Olympia.
